Known Application

The fullerene C60 molecule itself is non-conductive and an insulator, but when alkali metals are embedded in the gaps between C60 molecules, the resulting series of compounds with alkali metals, such as K3C60, transform into superconductors with high critical temperatures. In comparison to oxide superconductors, C60 superconductors exhibit perfect three-dimensional superconductivity, high current density, stability, and are easy to form into wires, making them valuable for various applications. Additionally, the three-dimensional non-localized electron conjugation structure in C60 imparts excellent optical and nonlinear optical properties, making it suitable for optical limiters.
